Birmingham police and Birmingham Zoo officials are in the 9000 block of Roebuck Blvd attempting to choose a 200lb bear. Officials in the Alabama Department of Conservation are also in this area.

BPD K-9 models have arrived to help find the bear.

It was initially spotted around five:30pm Friday evening with a driver. Birmingham police arrived afterwards and made visual contact with it too.

Birmingham mother and father requested help from Star 1, the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office's helicopter. Thermal imaging devices are also being used.

The last bear sighting in Birmingham was just fourteen days back in Ensley. That bear was captured and released into the wild.

Sgt Johnny Williams advises people to stay home or away from the scene if possible. He adds the division will remain on scene before bear is captured
